October Activity Box Finds!

We have specific needs for play in our home. My older child needs near constant stimulation and engagement to stay regulated and safe. Our younger child is a much more practical, independent player with lower regulation needs.


Right now, we’re trying out activity baskets, to see how they work for us and in an attempt to support regulation with less screens. Activity baskets (1 per kid) live on our kitchen table and their contents rotate (every week or longer if play is still engaging). Invitational play “this is here set up and ready if you want” works well with our child who experiences a high amount of demand avoidance. They have been enjoying the mix of new, exciting activities that keep them stimulated but stay the same for a period of time for predictably.


The kids (2 and 4) have a mix of different things and some of the same things so they can explore independently or together. Here are some festive and spooky Halloween finds to kick off your activity baskets, they features a mix of skill building, sensory and creativity:
